Please be aware of
the following dates regarding teacher work days, two hour early dismissal days
and interim and quarter grade dates. These dates are covered by either the
contract or letters of understanding between the BOE and the Association. If
there are questions about these dates or there uses please speak to the
building administrator first. If questions or problems persist please contact
your Uni-Serv or myself.
Important FCPS Calendar Dates
2 Hour Early
Dismissal Dates: Article XXIV, Section G of the Negotiated Agreement
“The Board will
annually designate up to six (6) school days on which students will be
dismissed two (2) hours early in order to provide that time for teachers to
conduct individual planning for instruction, evaluate student work, and/or work
collaboratively with colleagues.”

Teacher Work Days:
Article XXIV, Section F of the Negotiated Agreement
“Teachers will be
provided a day at the end of each quarter to focus on evaluation of student
work, completing report cards, individual planning for instruction, working
collaboratively with colleagues or other professional development activities
associated with school system priorities as determined by the school
improvement team. Deviations will only occur when there are systemic
requirements*”
*no systemic
requirements have been identified for the 06-07 school year
Dates: November 6, January 22, April 4
Professional Development Days: Article XXIV, Section E of the
Negotiated Agreement
“On professional
days, teachers are involved in individual, team, school, and systemic
activities that provide a high quality instructional program. Time on these
days may also be used for conferencing with students and parents, as necessary,
to ensure adequate academic progress through the year.”

Interim and
Quarter Grade Dates: Memorandum
of Understanding between BOE and FCTA
“Teachers shall be
provided three (3) workdays between the end of the mid-term and the end of the
grading period before grades must be submitted. Furthermore, should unforeseen
technological problems occur during the expected due date of grades, a
reasonable extension will be provided to teachers regarding the deadline for
submittal.”

“The FCTA and the
Board agree that continuing communication with parents of students is desirable
and necessary, therefore, each teacher is strongly urged to make every effort
to attend at least one Open House or a PTA meeting each year.
